HOSTING REQUIREMENTS

To host a class, your accredited law enforcement agency or military must provide an approved facility for the training – a vacant office building or school building with wide hallways and multiple rooms off the hallways (for the scenario based training). The facility must be unoccupied during the training. Before scheduling the course, you must complete a Site Survey that will be provided by our staff - describing the facility in which the training will be held. Registration for the class will begin upon facility approval.

Each class must have a minimum of 20 students and a maximum of 30. 24 is the ideal size for a class. The host agency is responsible for filling the classes with the minimum number of students no less than 21 days before the class begins.

The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center (ALERRT) will provide four certified instructors, all materials and equipment, for the class. We will handle all on-line registration through our online partnership with TEEX and we will certify all classes and post hours to TCLEOSE.

We will schedule two 16 hour classes in each location – generally a Tuesday/Wednesday and Thursday/Friday class (but that is negotiable)- in order to make the most efficient use of the equipment that we ship to your location. We also want to teach as many of your officers as possible without taking everyone off shift at the same time – and encourage the host agency to invite other agencies in the area to participate.

(Private sector training is available for approved corporations and agencies. Please contact our Director of Training for information and quotes)

Texas Agencies: Interested in HOSTING a class?
We have scheduled our Texas classes for FY07, using the funds awarded this year, but have started a waiting list for FY08. These Texas classes are underwritten by the Texas Office of the Governor - Criminal Justice Division
and will be delivered at no cost to the host agency or participants.
Contact us to get started.

Non-Texas Agencies: If you are interested in hosting ALERRT training, contact The ALERRT Scheduling Team , for possible funding options and details. We have earmarked the FY07 funding that has already been awarded for out-of-state training, through the US Bureau of Justice Assistance, but at this time we are compiling a waiting list of non-Texas agencies interested in ALERRT courses. Please include your agency name, city and state when corresponding with us. Contact the ALERRT Scheduling Team to be added to our list.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What classes are offered through ALERRT?
We currently offer a basic 16-hour Active Shooter training course, and an instructor level 40-hour "train-the-trainer" course in Rapid Response to Active Shooter training. The 16 hour class is held over the course of two days. The 40-hour course is a five day class. We are developing three other levels of ALERRT training, that will include a 10 hour "refresher" course; a 24-hour ADVANCED Active Shooter Course; and an Open-Air Training course.

2. What is covered in the ALERRT classes?
The basic 16 hour ALERRT class is very fast-paced and includes the following:

Historical overview
Active Shooter/vs. Barricade Hostage Situation
Tactical Team Movements
Survival Stress Reaction
Training to Win
Low Light Techniques
Rescue Team Tactics
Rules for Improvised Explosive Devices
Building Approaches
Safety Briefing
Force on Force Practical Exercises
Video Scenario Debriefing and Course Critique
The 40-hour Instructor Level Course begins with the two-day ALERRT basic course and is followed by three days of intense teaching techniques, role-playing and in-depth explanation of the curriculum.
Both courses are accredited for TCLEOSE hours in Texas and in most other states, can be recognized as official training hours through POST or other accrediting entities.

3. Who can take the ALERRT classes?
All State-certified peace officers, federal law enforcement officers, and military personnel in good standing with their units are eligible to take the ALERRT courses.

4. How much does it cost?
The courses are offered in Texas at no charge to peace officers or their agencies, through funding from the Governor's Office for Criminal Justice. ALERRT handles all expenses for the training, including the instructor expenses, equipment, shipping, and manuals. Host agencies provide the approved facility for the training. Participants are responsible for their own transportation, board and meals while taking the training.

We are currently awaiting funding that has been earmarked for a limited number of out-of-state courses to be held in the upcoming year.

We are currently seeking approval Office of Grants and Training (Formerly the Office of Domestic Preparedness) in the US Department of Homeland Security. Upon the OGT approval/sanctioning of the ALERRT Training, most agencies will be able to access funds through their state government to pay for this training in their home locale.

5. Where do you teach the ALERRT Classes?
The 16-hour basic ALERRT classes are taught in approved facilities provided by the host agencies. We bring the program to your agency and do all the training in your backyard, to cut down on extra costs for your agency and officers. The host agency will receive a check list with the requirements for the facility. We generally use a school or office building that is unoccupied during our training; with wide corridors and multiple classrooms or offices off the hallways for the team movement and active scenario training. Many times the classes are scheduled during Spring Break, holidays, summer vacation or other times when the students are not in session. Contact us for more information about hosting a class and the training facility requirements. (hosting@alerrt.com )

The 40-hour Instructor level course is taught at our facility in San Marcos, Texas. There is no cost for the training, but participants are required to fund their personal transportation, lodging and meals. We do have a special corporate discount through area La Quinta Hotels and will be glad to give you this discount code upon request. (diana@alerrt.com )

6. How can I register for an ALERRT class?
Easy! Go to the training page on this site and it will take you to the Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) at Texas A&M University. We contract with TEEX to administer our registration process and to certify the completion of training to the proper agencies (TCLEOSE, POST, Etc.).
